Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has called for complete and state-wide shutdown on 9 and 11 February to mark the “martyrdom” anniversary of Mohammad Afzal Gooru and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik Thursday called for a shutdown on Feb 9 and 11 to mark the anniversaries of two Kashmiris who were executed on these dates.

He appealed people to observe a complete strike on both the days to remember Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru – both of whom were secretly executed and buried in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 11th and 9th February
respectively.

The mortal remains of both Bhat and Guru have been denied to their families.

Bhat, founder of the JKLF, was executed on 11th February in 1984 while Guru was executed on 9th February in 2013 for his alleged involvement in attack on Indian Parliament.
