Iraqi Kurdish prominent politician Mahmoud Osman blamed Turkey policies against Kurds as unchanged and asked Kurdistan Region’s government to reconsider its ties with Ankara.
Osman stated Turkey is still denying the identity of Kurds and the Kurdish region in the north of Iraq should reconsider its relation with Ankara government.
The remarks came days after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced Kurds victory against the militants of the Islamic State (IS) in the Kurdish city of Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan and warned that Ankara does not accept another Iraqi Kurdistan in northern Syria.
Blaming Erdogan remarks, Osman voiced his hope that Kurdish leaders in the region would reconsider the administration’s ties with Turkey.
Despite Kurdistan Region’s oil export to Turkey and Ankara’s need for the oil, Erdogan is still looking at Kurdistan Region as a threat and has not hidden that Ankara looks at the region as a “problem.”
He went on to say that Erdogan and Turkey government are not ready to accept the rights of the Kurds not only in Turkey but also in the region on the whole.
