First phase of polling on 13 seats in Jharkhand tomorrow

The first phase of the polling on 13 seats in Jharkhand would be held tomorrow.

Out of the 13 seats which are going to the polls, three seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste while four seats are reserved for candidates of Scheduled Tribes.

Altogether 33,61,938 electorate are expected to exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 199 candidates who are in the fray from these seats which are spread across six districts.

Out of the 199 candidates 18 are women.

Eligible voters would be able to cast their votes across 3,939 booths from 0700 hrs to 1500 hrs on the polling date.

Meanwhile, state chief electoral officer P K Jajoria has appealed to all the voters to participate in the election process.

"People should freely come out of their homes and cast their votes to fulfill their responsibility and vote for the best candidate," Mr Jajoria said.

Since majority of seats fall in the Naxal-dominated areas, more than 35,000 security personnel, including jawans of CRPF, JAP, Jharkhand Jaguar, District Police and Homeguard would be deployed on poll duty during this phase.

Four helicopters have also been put into service.

Candidates whose future would be locked in the EVMs include Jharkhand Rural Development Minister K N Tripathi, JPCC President Sukhdeo Bhagat, AJSU party leader Kamal Kishore Bhagat, Anant Pratp Deo, Sudha Chowdhary and Janardhan Paswan.

Prominent leaders who have so far campaigned in the state for their respective party candidates include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP's national president Amit Shah, BJP leaders and Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Giriraj Singh, Ramkripal Yadvav, Jayant Sinha and LJP supremo and Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi and Former UP CM and BSP supremo Mayawati have also campaigned in the state.
