AMERICA'S 9/11 IS GAZA'S 24/7

12-9-2014 11.40AM IST

Medhaj News: The day has passed and most of the media organisations failed to see the dullness and hatred in which 9/11 has changed over the course of time.

For it was a day of awakening and brotherhood that faded into darkness, when humanity died and what prevailed was sectarian division which America fanned leading to unspeakable atrocities against innocent civilians in the middle-east. For what we call 9/11 is their 24/7.

The world has turned a blind eye towards Gaza when they are being attacked, invaded brutally.

1893: It was a bright day. No it wasn't the sun that shone above nor the flowers that blossomed. It was his aura, his words that spoke wisdom and created history. Those ears heard 'Sisters and Brothers of America', those faces shone and those hearts drowned in joy. It was an awakening.

2001: Years later, on the same day, the ears there heard shill cries, the faces either disfigured or gone red with wailing and the hearts mourning hard over the loss and grief that just befell them.

The day, 9/11, was destined to make a mark in the history, it seems. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Tweet today made me think how days change their colours over the course of time.

"There are 2 images of 11th September- one of the trail of destruction in 2001 & the other- the message of Swami Vivekananda in 1893," he tweeted.

The same day which saw him enlightening the whole world with his soul-stirring speech in Chicago on universal brotherhood saw the humanity dying a brutal death in front of the twin towers in New York. Innocents were murdered, the blood flowing out of their bodies cried and questioned the futile hatred that killed them and brought despair to their loved for ones for lifetime.

"I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true," Vivekanada had said on 9/11/1893. He created history.

A century later, it was the exact opposite of tolerance and universal acceptance that marked the 9/11. That also went on to create history.

Today, as we see another 9/11 unfolding before us, it will be interesting to see which 9/11 essence we embrace : the one which is known for universal tolerance or the other one that smells of chauvinism and narrow idea of fanatical patriotism.

Today's newspapers are full of reports on some right-wing leaders chanting anti-Pakistani slogans and demanding an event on Paki lifestyle, Alishan Pakistan' to be called off.

We also read about Modi saying, "Had we followed Swamiji's message, history would never have witnessed such dastardly acts as the 9/11 terror attack."

Now, how Modi government follows Swamiji's message on universal brotherhood and tolerance is to be seen. How the world will shape in the coming years is a dilemma and a fear within all of us.

The future knows the answer and we shall have faith, in humanity, in ourselves.
