Medhaj News: Mohit Nagar of ABVP polled 20718 votes against Gaurav Tushir of NSUI who polled 19804 votes for the post of president.
This year, new parties entered the fray — All India Students' Association (AISA), Students' Federation of India (SFI) with right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and Congress-backed National Students' Union of India (NSUI).
“We vote because seniors urge us to” said one college student. “ we come to vote because we realise the value of our vote” said another.
For DUSU, seven candidates were in the fray for the post of president, 32 for vice president, 41 for secretary and 34 for joint secretary.
Expected Poll code violations, including canvassing on college campuses and minor disputes, kept police on their toes throughout polling time at the University.
In a bid to poach voters, student organisations also flashed placards and distributed pamphlets outside the University Metro station. Each party representative was seen canvassing at the Metro stairs and exterior.
In DU, the main agenda was hostel accommodation, issues of the northeast, while all organisations tried to take credit of scrapping the controversial four year undergraduate programme. The North East issue also help prominence with ABVP announcing special schemes for the community if voted to power.
