Medhaj News: Caption: Kashmiri Volunteers headed towards Dal interiors to distribute medicines and food items -Ifat Gazia

The ravaged Kashmir, I have not seen that in real, but the videos and photographs of division is something that flashed before my eyes when Ifat narrated me. I somehow believed that the present scenario in Kashmir is something worse like that of division and that people are rushing, running and raging in the same manner. A paradise is lost.

Water has begun to recede from swamped localities of Kashmir and summer capital Srinagar. It's been more than 10 days since Jhelum came violently and gulped everything that came its way. The river once revered, is now feared by the residents. The flood has not only rendered thousands homeless damaging their belongings, but also destroyed the state's vast agricultural reserves.

And even after so many days, villages are yet to receive relief. The priority of administration is to rescue and nobody is talking of rehabilitation, still, villages are waiting for relief, people are

waiting to be rescued.

In Awantipora, mostly rural neighbourhood situated on the banks of River Jhelum, areas like Padgampora, Begpora, Charsu, Guripora, Wandakpora, Kandizal and Gadhanzpora were severely affected. Almost all the houses in Begpora were damaged due to the flash floods, quoted Anees.

“We have not received any relief from state or any other agency. Most of us have been receiving logistic support from residents of villages living in the vicinity. We also went to Srinagar relief centers who also helped us with a little ration and medicines,” Adil Wani, who works with Awantipora Releif Committee said.

At Town Hall, the volunteers are still worried about the ration and relief. More than 5000 families around Awantipora are directly affected from the catastrophe.

Almost 90% of Kashmir is devastated, said Ifat. Further, flooded premises in the biggest maternity hospital in Srinagar, Government Lalla Ded Hospital is adding on to the woes of maternity patients and ailing babies.
